Organizing for Your Mental Health

Spring cleaning is when we realize that we can no longer ignore the mess in our living rooms and decide it’s time to reevaluate the value of certain belongings in our lives. Decluttering can be a daunting task, so here are some spring cleaning tips to help your organizing be as stress-free as possible.

Have A Clear Goal When You Start

If you plan on decluttering, you first need to have a goal in mind. Whether decluttering the living room to make room for new furniture or going through 10 boxes in the attic, starting with a clear plan helps you avoid getting distracted by other projects. Communicating your goals with your family is also essential. Everyone needs to be on board, mainly because they also need to make their own decisions about organizing their belongings.

Start Small and Start with Yourself

Organizing is overwhelming. Choosing to start with manageable tasks allows you to build confidence and feel a sense of accomplishment that will encourage you to move on to more challenging projects. If you’re organizing alone, start with your belongings and then work your way into other areas.

Don’t Rush the Process

In the case of a big reorganizing project, you shouldn’t place the expectation on yourself that you’ll finish in a day. Take the time you need to sort through things without putting a time limit. It’s also important not to rush people to sort belongings if they are grieving a loved one.

Decluttering during spring cleaning is a freeing process, and it has a positive impact on our mental health by reducing stress and giving us a sense of accomplishment. Moreover, God invites us to do all things decently and in order
